The Hanging Chair: It Will Swing You Off Your Feet

The Hanging Chair: It Will Swing You Off Your Feet

Both playful and practical, hanging chairs never fail to add character to the decor of any room or backyard.

Finnish designer Eero Aarnio introduced the first bubble chair to the public in 1968. The aim of his design was to give the sitter the impression that they were floating in the air. Hence the chair’s spherical floating bubble shape. Since then, several versions of this chair have come on the market. No matter the style of your home’s decor, a hanging chair is a must, even out in the yard!

Your Own Cozy Cocoon!

Whether it be in the living room, bedroom, family room or beneath a tree in the backyard, everyone wants to have a little spot of their own where they can read or daydream out of sight. A hanging chair in a rounded shape is your best bet as it offers a lot of privacy. And the fact that it is very comfortable should not be overlooked!

Liven Up the Playroom

What child can resist climbing onto a chair – hung from the ceiling – that can become their own private play area or hideaway. Swinging chairs are a popular choice for a playroom or child’s bedroom. And it’s perfect for the little ones that have trouble sitting still during quiet activities! For example, while watching a movie, the child will be able to fidget without disturbing others by swinging gently.

Add a Novel Seating Area to the Backyard With a Hanging Chair

Space in the backyard can be limited. Do you have lots of friends and struggle to offer them all a comfortable place to sit when they come over? Bubble chairs placed here and there is the ideal solution. Although they are large, they can easily fit into more difficult areas, such as right-angle corners, without getting in the way. Don’t forget to use water-resistant materials.

From Country to Contemporary

The swinging bean chair is sometimes associated with farmhouse decor. It is true that rattan models fit beautifully into a country-styled home, but hanging chairs are also available in a multitude of trendy designs. The most modern combine wood and black steel. Others are more bohemian inspired, with their fringes and colours reminiscent of the 1970s. A tone-on-tone bubble chair that blends into a decor will fit perfectly into a classically decorated room. There are also colourful options and fun shapes for the kids’ rooms. As you can see, there is a chair for every type of home!

Here’s a tip! Before you jump in, make sure the chair is securely attached to the ceiling. It is important to anchor the suspension system to a solid structural component such as a beam; some ceilings are not strong enough to support it, especially those made of gypsum board. Now you can kick back and relax!
