The 8 Traits Real Estate Brokers Have in Common

Have you ever considered becoming a real estate broker? Do you feel like this profession might be right for you? If you have most of the following personality traits described below, you just might be a great recruit!

1— They Are Comfortable With People

Real estate is a field where people are constantly meeting people, whether by telephone, videoconference or in person (with two metres physical distance in this time of COVID!). Brokers usually know how to make people feel at ease and are not intimidated by the thought of meeting new people. They inspire trust in others and can effectively demonstrate their expertise.

2— They Are Organized

You need to be organized to juggle several files at once and answer calls from various clients the same day! Brokers often have full digital calendars and carry around briefcases overflowing with neatly sorted documents so that they can be ready for any eventuality!

3— They Are Curious

Real estate is a vast and complex field. Each region, municipality and area possesses its own characteristics that make it stand out. Real estate brokers usually have a thirst for knowledge. Often, they will specialize in a specific type of property or locality, like 100-year-old homes, luxury condos, or a particular city’s family-friendly neighbourhood.

4— They Understand the Laws Regulating Transactions and the Necessary Tools

This profession requires an in-depth knowledge of real estate brokerage regulations to properly complete all the legal documents a transaction requires. But the scope of their expertise often goes much further! Brokers generally have an excellent understanding of mortgage financing, government subsidies or notarial procedures.

5— They Are Good Listeners

Having an attentive ear is a must when showing and selling properties. In fact, it is crucial for the broker to truly grasp the needs of their clients to find them the perfect new home. They also know how to ask sellers the right questions to better guide their buyers.

6— They Don’t Mind Working Evenings and Weekends

It is common for real estate brokers to work outside regular office hours and this is sometimes perceived as one of the downsides of this profession. But as a self-employed person, a broker can plan their schedule around their family and personal obligations, which is great!

7— They Can Quickly Form an Opinion About a Particular Property

The real estate broker knows how to quickly analyze and get an overall picture of the properties they have been mandated to sell or that they want to show to their buyers. They can identify the qualities and shortcomings of a property at a glance and discuss them with you honestly.

8— They Don’t Waste Their Clients’ Time

You haven’t heard from your broker in 3 days? Don’t worry, they haven’t forgotten you. They are no doubt working hard to find you the perfect home and are waiting to have compiled a complete list of properties to show so as not to waste your time on unnecessary visits.
